It can be so hard to mix fashion and cold weather. Especially when you get a freak cold front like we did her in Texas over part of the holidays. At one point the high was 74 and the low was 16, because why not just knock out all four seasons in one day, right? Anyway, when you know you’ll be out in the cold weather to finish up some last minute shopping, you can still rock a cute outfit that makes a statement without sacrificing your comfort.
One of my absolute favorite winter pieces is a faux fur vest that I got for Christmas last year. It’s incredibly warm and comfortable, and it’s not so bulky that I can’t throw a pea coat over it. Another one of my favorite things to do is…wear dresses! Sounds crazy, I know. I do, however, throw on some skinny jeans or leggings under it. Tall boots also allow for tall, warm, socks that will keep your feet and legs warm. And thank God leg warmers are back in!
Big, baggy sweaters are always a go-to for me. Especially when they’re a neutral color that can go with anything. They’re comfortable, stylish, easy to dress-up, and did I mention the comfort factor?
Depending on your style, you might even find comfort in a pretty wild rag. I personally love a good wild rag to keep my neck and shoulders cozy. For an extra layer, throw on a denim button-up. They literally go with everything without dressing the outfit down too much.
Hats are always a good call on a cold day, too. You’d be surprise at how warm a felt hat can be! I love hats at all times of the year, but during the summer time they make me sweaty and give me terrible hat hair. Bleh. In the winter, they actually keep my head warm and sometimes block the wind from my face, keeping my hair out of my lip gloss.
So there you have it! It’s so much easier to throw together an adorable outfit in freezing temperatures that you might think. I am so happy I held on to certain things I use to own in high school like leg warmers, flannels, and a few beanies here and there. They’ve come back in style in a huge way and are always excellent for a cold day. Normally I donate my old clothing that I no longer wear, (especially during this time of year, I encourage all to do the same), but it’s fun to hold on to a few things and see how they come back in style!
I hope everyone is staying warm and safe during this crazy weather!
